Distinguished Lecturer: Solid State Circuit Protection

Feb. 24 | 1:00 - 1:45 PM

The lecture will review the latest advancements in Solid State Circuit Protection. The worlds first solid state circuit breaker (SSCB) has passed UL489 and has also earned its own standard UL489I.  This technology breakthrough allows for remote power cycling through the circuit breaker and includes monitoring capabilities with a number of applications on the horizon which can significantly reduce user costs.  Additional benefits are that surge suppression can be built in, and power quality events which may jeopardize equipment operation can be interrupted through the intelligence of the breaker itself. Furthermore, and most importantly, the speed at which a solid state circuit breaker can react is two orders of magnitude faster than a traditional electro-mechanical circuit breaker meaning that arc-flash problems, or coordination studies effectively  become a thing of the past.
